The Piquant Gentleman
I was researching some Rye cocktails this week, as I occasionally get a really bad craving for the spirit, and while I was mixing up some good classics I decided to delve deeper and find some classic whiskey cocktails that I could give a little extra pep to by substituting in the rye. I had a delicious Monin Spiced Brown Sugar syrup in the cabinet that I had not yet used and knew it would accompany the spirit perfectly so when I found the classic Italian Gentleman cocktail in one of my books I knew it would work perfectly. The spice from the rye and Monin syrup was great with a little Campari and lemon juice but I decided the orange bitters wouldn’t show through enough so I grabbed some chocolate bitters and added in a few drops to round everything out.
Recipe:
- 1.5 ounces Rye
- ¾ ounce Campari
- ¾ ounce Monin spiced brown sugar
- 1 ounce lemon juice
- 2 drops chocolate bitters
Method:
- Combine all ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice
- Shake to chill and combine ingredients
- Strain into a coupe glass
- Garnish with edible flower
- Enjoy!
