1919 Strawberry Daiquiri

Whenever I think of Caribbean cocktails the first thing that comes to mind is a delicious Daiquiri, no not one of those blended concoctions you might get in Miami or Las Vegas but an elegant, misunderstood, and often misrepresented, good old-fashioned Daiquiri. I’m talking about something shaken hard with a little ice to chill the ingredients just right and then strained into a coupe glass with no more ice in sight. For this adaption of the classic Daiquiri, we used the Angostura 1919® rum with lime juice (of course), a few dashes of ANGOSTURA® orange bitters, and strawberry syrup to balance everything out just right.

The Angostura 1919® has great notes of caramel and vanilla that amalgamate deliciously with the fresh strawberry flavor in the simple syrup. 1919 is on the drier side of the rum index but with the addition of our homemade strawberry syrup it can get a little sweet for some so that’s where the lime juice comes into the mix; balancing everything right back out to where it is just right. A little fresh strawberry can be added to the glass to make it look the part with the additional benefit of enhancing the sweet aromas of the cocktail.
