This May 26th marks the first World Aperitivo Day and for a category that dates back over 2000 years, we think it’s been a long time coming and we’ll be celebrating with an aperitivo or two ourselves.
If you’ve been following along on our journey, you know we love a little aperitivo. Coming from the Latin term “to open,” an aperitivo is a pre-dinner drink and drinking ritual native to Italy. Aperitivos are a lighter alcoholic drink with a low-abv traditionally enjoyed with light bites or snacks such as olives or arancini during the early evening between work and dinner. While the concept has long been a part of European culture, drinks like the Negroni and the spritz have further introduced the US and the rest of the world to this beloved Italian ritual. With an aperitivo festival set to launch in 2023, it looks like it’s here to stay.
Here are a few super simple cocktails concocted by industry professionals for you all to try out at home with some iconic Italian ingredients.
